How To Remove Paint On Reborn Dollclass Eyes
I'grand RagingMoon1987, and to quote Motley Crue information technology's fourth dimension to take a ride on the wild side, albeit non equally wild as some of my other wild dolls. I've wanted a Delilah Noir doll ever since I saw her first advertised back in...ah heck, twelvemonth's not important, but I cruel in love with the idea of a vinyl ball-jointed doll that wouldn't scuff, wouldn't flake, wouldn't break, wouldn't stain. Wouldn't stain...yeah, if y'all remember the other niggling Ashton-Drake doll I reviewed then yous may know where I'm going with that. But anyway, I ran into a seller on eBay that wanted some money for animal rescue, and one-two-5 with free shipping later I got my Delilah. I got the very 1 that I fell in honey with, Grade Act/Violaceous Rave. She's already endmost in on ten years of age, even though I've just had her a few months.
Delilah has a backstory like and so many high-end (and non-and then-high-end) dolls practice, ane that involves this odd split personality of sorts. Well okay, mayhap not a split personality so much as she has a double life...yes, that's more like it. Anyhow, according to her story Miss Delilah is well-to-do and attending some fancy prep school, and by day she is what she appears to be in the pic above: straight-A pupil, cheerleader, loyal friend, beloved by her teachers, classmates, and family. When nighttime falls she becomes more adventurous with her style and...pretty much does whatever the heck she wants. Both of Delilah'due south personas have a healthy imagination, which is a nice just rare thing for a teenage girl to accept. Ashton-Drake didn't make any specifics about Delilah's nighttime doings (other than stating that she is no criminal), which I assume ways we can fill information technology in ourselves and all just make Delilah whatever we want her to be. Indeed, Delilah'south tagline was/is "Is she what you encounter or what y'all believe her to be?" At first that didn't brand sense to me, but now that I end to remember about how we collectors make our own backstories for our dolls the tagline makes more than sense. Regarding the dolls, some Delilah dolls represent her 24-hour interval persona like Pretty in Pink does, while others show her dark side similar Steampunk and Lady Onyx exercise. Nevertheless others came with an ensemble for each personality, like One time Bitten, Twice Shy, It's 10 O'Clock, and the debut doll/my doll, Class Act. Like all good ball-jointed dolls, Delilah lends herself nicely to redressing, as this blogger'due south In one case Bitten, Twice Shy doll shows, and to customization, as this doll reveals.
Now that that's out of the way, nitty-gritty time! Delilah is xvi inches alpine, significant that she should be MSD-sized. All the same, beingness MSD-sized means little in the ball-jointed doll world, as non all dolls in that category are the same height. I mean, they're withal average height, just MSDs tin can fall anywhere from twoscore to forty-vi centimeters, with some even existence a little taller than that. Delilah is forty-two centimeters and is thus a respectable size for a fashion doll, but when I put her with Alistair, Hailey, and Johnny she comes up short in the tiptop section. Having bent knees doesn't help her much, but (spoiler warning) that'southward really the only way I tin become her to stand up...and discover that even in the grouping motion picture Alistair is having to hold her up. More on that in a bit.
"NOOOOOOO!!!"
Oh Johnny, must y'all always be so self-conscious??? Simply one time yous could expect at the photographic camera!
"<sigh>...very well."
Atta male child, that's better. I don't know how Johnny's fiddling resin brains piece of work sometimes, but he tin be hard to handle if non reassured before a photo shoot. Fun fact: if Johnny were a human he'd be near five-foot-7, not terribly tall for the sixteen-year-old male person that his graphic symbol is supposed to be. Thus I find it a scrap comical that he's the tallest of my MSDs so far. Regarding dolls that are Non brawl-jointed dolls (honorary or Den of Angels-approved), Delilah is about the height of a Tonner doll like Cami (Perfect Morning is pictured hither).
I am DYING to see what my flaxen-haired All-Star Cami looks like in a blackness wig, by the way. Her makeup is similar to that of the raven-haired Knave of Hearts, and then I'm almost certain my doll would look good with blackness hair. Likewise bad Delilah's wig is too large or it would fit the bill perfectly.
Yes, like nigh brawl-jointed dolls Delilah wears a wig, and since my detail doll is one of the more than deluxe sets she comes with two wigs. Miss Emily's Pretty in Pinkish doll had a single wig that had lovely colors but was of lousy quality. The fibers were coarse and ever had flyaways, and the function had a sewing defect that made one side popular upwardly a bit, and then I'thousand going to approach these wigs with some caution. Here's what the wigs look like when they're off the doll...
...and when they're on the doll.
I'm at a loss for words on the blonde wig. It's not bad, but it's not great either. It'south soft and attractive, just it's likewise frizzy and doesn't take well to a style other than the fashion it's already in. The fibers feel a lot like mohair, fifty-fifty though mohair isn't the fiber of choice for doll wigs anymore. The bangs take some dainty trunk in them, but sometimes they can have a mite also much!
I Can go them to lie flat with a little water and a brush, but in one case they dry they puff back up once more. As for the style, the blonde wig is minimally styled with zilch but this little white clip. This works, by the mode. Sometimes piddling clips are permanently affixed to a doll's wig or caput, only this i is a legit clip, not dissimilar the ones I employ in my ain hair.
The paint is wanting to skin off of this clip, pregnant I'll have to glue it back together. Skilful affair I've got a bottle of tacky glue two feet away from me! Tacky glue is your friend, y'all, just like Doctor Steel.
Despite the foreign fibers I much prefer the blonde wig to the blackness wig. The blackness wig holds a style better, merely it'southward...well, information technology'southward just your average fiber wig with fibers that stick out in odd directions, not unlike the Fatiao wig that one of my floating heads once wore. It's not particularly soft or smooth, just your average-quality doll wig as I said above. There are no quirky seams to give this wig odd cowlicks though, and I love the bangs. They're lightly feathered and are cut a bit longer than bangs usually are, and that after ways that the fibers practise take hold of in Delilah'south eyelashes. No worries there though, equally these bangs are easily brushed to i side.
Actually, I hate them parted like that. The stock pictures suggest that they were supposed to be worn hanging in Delilah'due south eyes, so that's that.
Co-ordinate to online sources Delilah wears a 6-7 wig, meaning that she probably can't share wigs with my other brawl-jointed dolls. Hailey (as far as I tin tell) wears an 8-9 wig, Johnny, Alistair, Ju-hwang, and the 2 floating heads all article of clothing a 7-eight, Chloe wears a 5-half-dozen, the two Ai Dolls habiliment a 4-iv.5, and Freya doesn't wear a wig at all, then wig sharing is OUT for Delilah! Oh sure, I have other wigs for other dolls, stuff like LIV and Create-A-Monster and Cami's stock wig, but equally far as I know those options are all too pocket-size too...with the possibility of this goofy-looking affair, worn by Lotus O'Leary, ane of my Create-A-Monster dolls.
Another fun fact: Lotus's proper name is a play on the name of a bioluminescent mushroom that her glow-in-the-dark plastic resembles, Omphalotus olearius (mutual name is the jack-o'-lantern mushroom, do not eat). Anyway, I bought Lotus'due south wig with the intention of using it in a serial of reviews that took a brief wait at all my Monster High dolls, simply I realized that I tin can't say annihilation about MH that someone else hasn't said so I scrapped the posts. I notwithstanding have the wig though, an outrageous number from Custom Critter Designs that I had custom-fabricated to deliberately clash with Lotus's glowing neon-orange plastic. I dear Custom Critter Designs, by the way; I can always count on them and Sammy's Care for Shop to fill my dolly needs for a reasonable toll. Alistair's cute little alpaca shirt came from there, in fact. Maybe Delilah tin become all the same another of their customers...
...okay, that peradventure is more likely a definitely, merely it won't be with this wig. When Custom Critter Designs said this was for a Monster High doll, they MEANT IT!!! The cap is also pocket-size for Delilah's caput, and because it's your typical craft fur it does not stretch. Too bad too, considering I love the colors on Delilah. I'll custom-society another wig like this and get back to yous on that.
Lotus's wig is a definite no-become, but I however accept some options that I'd like to try, specially this green wig, seen here on Alistair.
I phone call this Alistair'southward "Johnny Rotten" wig, even though I've yet to detect a picture of John Lydon/Johnny Rotten with green pilus. Xanthous and green, yeah, only not solid greenish. Anywho, I ordered this wig in the wrong size and information technology's subsequently a flake as well tight for Alistair. Obviously he Tin wear it and he looks okay in it, but information technology won't fit over a wig cap and I ever worry that the green volition stain his scalp. Maybe Delilah can wear it amend...
That'south...not too shabby! It fits very well, and it looks surprisingly cute too, especially when parted on the side. Alistair may go this back and he may not!
I've likewise got this dreadlock wig, ane that won't fit on any head except Alistair'southward. LOL, are y'all noticing that Alistair always gets the goofy stuff to wear?
Alistair gets all the goofy stuff because that's what I intended. Johnny has a very fixed look and I got a little bored with that, and so I got Alistair to experiment with. Some of the looks I put together are a swing and a miss, like this wig is. It's a girl's wig, and while Alistair is foppish he is yet 100% male. I even bought a top hat, hoping for sort of a Slash aesthetic with this wig, but that didn't work either...though absolutely the top hat I got is too big for Alistair to wear properly. Well, that and Slash has natural curls, not dreads. Anyway, Alistair doesn't seem to mind the ill fit of the lid (he doesn't listen anything, really), simply I'm non feeling the overall look.
I don't know what'southward getting worse, my tangents or my musical references! I'm always taking some vocaliser in a stone 'n' roll band and projecting their style onto Alistair. Unfortunately the Slash await didn't work too well for him...not still, anyway. A smaller lid might do the trick...dang it, this is supposed to exist Delilah's review, not Alistair's!!! I like Alistair just a little, okay??? As I said above, I love to experiment with eyes and wigs, and when I practice I always feel similar I've got a make-new doll. Johnny has one gear up look that doesn't alter much, but Alistair is perfect for experimenting.
Alrighty, Delilah, your plough. I won't make you habiliment that impaired hat; indeed I'm thinking of converting that into a pilus decoration for myself.
It'southward a little big, but it might fit closer if I use a wig cap. Wig caps can make a huge divergence in the fit of a wig, and this detail wig looks neat with Delilah's nighttime clothes so I'll endeavor a wig cap and get back to y'all on that. Delilah'due south default wigs attach with Velcro, by the way. The hooked office is attached to her head in two places...
...and the wigs have ii strips of the other half.
I'thousand non a huge fan of attaching doll wigs with Velcro, every bit there'southward e'er a chance that the hooks might damage the wig or scratch the doll'due south caput. The method worked alright for Cami, but my What's Her Face dolls are having a lot of trouble with their Velcro wigs, and I got so sick of the Velcro tabs on my Ai Dolls that I took them off completely! I may do this with Delilah likewise and resort to using rubber bands to go on her wig in place if her Velcro gets too annoying (which it hasn't yet). That sounds like a ridiculous way to continue a wig on, only I've tried it with both Hailey and my Ai Dolls and it works...pretty well. It'due south non a cure-all for the Ai Dolls' teensy heads, but with Hailey it'due south a pretty expert solution. If it'll work on Hailey'southward glace-smooth head information technology'll work on Delilah's not-then-slippery-smooth head.
Being a brawl-jointed doll, Delilah'south not-so-slippery-smooth head opens upwardly and reveals the usual items that a BJD head contains: strings, eye putty, optics, and...no hook! My other ball-jointed dolls have a hook or a ring, but all Delilah has is a knot. I may add together in a hook; Delilah doesn't Demand ane, only if I ever have to resting her the hook will provide something for my wimpy piffling easily to grasp.
Her ears are realistic piddling doll ears and take piercings, though the hole looks rough (and painful) and I've yet to observe earrings that tin can fit them.
Delilah has a lovely face, if a little blank.
I'm non the offset one to speak of Delilah's neutral expression, merely it doesn't carp me too much since this doll was meant to exist customized anyway. Ane thing that does assist her is this lip paint; it's glossy rather than matte like the lip paint on another Delilah dolls, and I love the style information technology looks.
I do wish her mouth didn't hang open, equally the sleeky paint in in that location can await a chip like pooling drool if not photographed correctly. But still, this isn't a bad rima oris, and with information technology hanging open ane tin go crazy with their painting skills if they have any (I don't, though that may be nearly to change). Some owners (tangent warning) even requite their girls visible teeth, and the results look eerily similar another ball-jointed doll that I've been admiring from afar, Telesthesia and Dragon's Susan. I'g non going to prevarication to y'all, though: fifty-fifty though Susan is the higher-end doll I like Delilah's face meliorate than Susan'due south. Susan is a pretty obvious graphic symbol doll with a permanent smile, while Delilah looks more innocent and tin be painted up in whatsoever way the owner wants. But anyway, I similar my Delilah's lip paint. This glossy style is what I'm thinking of when I gripe about Mattel's bubblegum-lipped dolls of color.
Up now to eyes now, where I usually starting time when I discuss the confront. These are acrylic optics in a shade that I've been calling root beer dark-brown, and they're fringed with both rooted and painted eyelashes, and some delicately painted eyebrows.
I initially idea that all Delilah Noir dolls had these light brown eyes, but a close-upwards view of Lady Onyx proves that not to be the example. Or at least I Recall those are Lady Onyx's stock eyes! As with my other ball-jointed dolls Delilah'south eyes can be taken out and replaced, and that'southward a fairly skilful thing considering Delilah's eyes are pretty apparently. They've got a nice sparkle, and I love the shade of chocolate-brown, only there'south not a lot of detail. No super-distinct lines or veins or anything of that sort.
Compare that to i of Johnny's optics, or try to! I hadn't noticed until now just how squinty his eye wells are! Look closely though, and one can see that his eyes (greyness drinking glass defaults that I like as well much to change) have a off-white amount of detail. His paint also has more particular, and information technology's painted with more than precision.
I don't gauge it's off-white to compare Delilah'southward eyes and paint to Johnny's since Johnny cost 2 and a half times what Delilah did, and he's non mass-produced like she is. Furthermore, while Delilah's eyes don't sparkle every bit much equally Johnny's do they still have more life than Hailey's or Crissy's. That was one of my dominant complaints in both Hailey's and Crissy's reviews, that their optics are and so cotton fiber-pickin' dark. I love brown optics, don't get me incorrect, but super-dark doll eyes lack the life and sparkle that super-dark human eyes accept. Regarding size, I think I read that Delilah's eyes are 10mm, meaning that she can't share optics with ANY of my other dolls. Ai Doll eyes are as well pocket-size, and the rest are too large. I accept no thought if these are full-rounds or half-rounds that she's wearing, by the way. Her eye putty covered the backs of the eyes and so I tin't tell. I assume that they're half-rounds since I can't feel any stems through the putty, but not all full-round eyes have stems. Some are ground smooth on the back like marbles.
Oops, I forgot that Delilah'south cheeks are lightly blushed, non enough to look clownish, but enough to give her a flake of color.
Bare as Delilah's expression may be, I quite like this confront. Equally I and other bloggers have noted, this blankness is a blank slate and tin can be made to expect like anything. But at the same time my particular doll's paint is pretty enough to stand on its own, without a lot of embellishments.
Now I think we can movement on to the torso. It's pretty obvious that Delilah is supposed to exist an older teenager, perchance seventeen or so.
She has fairly large breasts, a nipped-in waist, a bellybutton, and a gluteal cleft. In other words, the usual stuff on a doll. She also has a strategically placed slit to suggest a private area, but I don't think I'll show that.
Delilah has xiv joints, located at her neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, chest, hips, knees, and ankles, and here'due south where I'm going to pick a nit. All through this review I've called Delilah a brawl-jointed doll, and indeed she was advertised as i, just one of the criteria for beingness a ball-jointed doll is strung joints and while Delilah does have strung joints, virtually of her joints are Not strung. Granted she does have more strung joints than Hailey does (NONE of Hailey's joints are strung), but almost of Delilah's joints are plastic on plastic rather than elastic strung. Her cervix, shoulders, chest, and hips are the strung joints, and quite frankly those are the inferior joints in terms of posing...accept that back. Delilah's cervix is strung, but it'south an okay articulation. She can plow it and expect up, only she can't look down worth a dern.
Shoulders are where things really start to get southward for Delilah'due south posing. I can move her shoulders upwards and down and get them to stay similar that, but if I endeavor to motion them out they won't hold. The leftmost pic is every bit far out equally they'll stay.
Delilah'south elbows and wrists are ball-jointed, only it'due south a hinged ball articulation rather than a strung i. The elbow bends, and the wrist bends and rotates. These hold a pose beautifully and make me wish the shoulders were as piece of cake to handle.
Delilah has pretty hands, molded in an open up but relaxed position. She has trivial creases on her palm, and her fingernails are painted black, one of my favorite blast polish colors. Those black nails are Delilah'south sole concession to her darker personality during the daytime, and even they're non a huge concession since black goes with everything.
Delilah's torso is also jointed, nearly midway between her hips and her bust, but the posing hither is pathetic too then why bother taking pictures of it? Just for kicks, here'southward what the within of Delilah's torso looks similar. Her arms are strung on private cords rather than on one unmarried 1, and I wonder if maybe that isn't why her shoulders accept such poor movement. All my other ball-jointed dolls have arms strung on a single cord, and for the most part they take proficient shoulder motion.
Also notice the little caps that go along the arm knots out a ways; I assume that may aid in restringing if that were ever needed. The main cord that holds Delilah'due south trunk together is fed down through a blackness tube, something that I've not seen earlier. I question the necessity of that tube, every bit it could make any future restringing jobs that much more fiddly. Ugh, I positively HATE restringing!!!
Downwards to the lower half of the torso at present. Delilah is jointed at her hips, knees, and ankles, and these hips tie with the shoulders for the title of worst joints. Nosotros'll get to that in a second though, because look what I discovered when I got Delilah completely undressed.
HER Right LEG IS WARPED!!! This is the kind of thing I'd expect from one of the old jointed Barbie Fashionistas, not from a doll that used to price a Benjamin and a Grant. Furthermore, I'chiliad unsure of how to rectify this. My former Winx Social club and Fashionista dolls can exist fixed with a plunge into humid water (even though I STILL haven't washed that after seven years), but with Delilah beingness made from a different type of plastic I don't dare get her within a mile of my tea kettle. Dammit, Ashton-Drake, your lovely quality command is showing again. Oh, you lot can probably see another big problem with poor Delilah, simply we'll become to that.
Alrighty, Moon Daughter, compose thyself and focus. Delilah's hips are poor-to-mediocre in terms of posing, though the warped leg has nothing to exercise with this. The hips, like the shoulders, are strung, and this is as far apart as they'll become.
Delilah does take respectable front-back splits, though I don't know why I'd ever desire to pose her like this. Allow's exist honest, how many of the states actually put our dolls in splits? And yet every time I take a review like this I pose the doll this style. LOL, anywho, Delilah can do forepart-dorsum splits, though I have to prop her up this style.
Here'due south what the backs of Delilah's knees look like. They too are hinged ball joints, and they have excellent motion.
They bend to almost a ninety-degree angle and stay that way.
In addition to that, these knees tin rotate some, though it looks painful!
Delilah's ankles only rotate. They have absolutely no back-and-forth motion, though that might be a adept thing when I stop to think about Cami'south pathetic talocrural joint joints. Delilah also has a nasty example of cankles, the merely aesthetic problem that I see with this torso (as well that infernal warping, of course). It'south also possible to meet...that these feet are STAINED!!!
Oh yes, these feet switch out. Delilah has flat feet with a separate tabi-style toe, and also high-heeled feet with a dissever tabi-way toe. For some reason the high-heeled feet did not stain.
Hither's a closer wait at the anxiety. They have individual little toes (with blackness boom polish, which I beloved), and the aforementioned tabi toes.
Not the prettiest doll feet, really; that big gap between the big toe and the others looks unnatural, and as far every bit I know there were no strappy shoes made for Delilah anyway. Add to that the fact that these feet and legs are nightmarishly stained, every bit I noted above. It'due south even possible to run into the blueprint of the fabric on this foot, which tells me which pair of socks perpetrated this staining.
Headdesk. First Reddish, now Delilah. WHY didn't Ashton-Drake take steps to keep this from happening! As much as their items price there surely could've been a style to foreclose staining!!! I wonder if Miss Emily'southward Emily the Strange doll was stained??? I'll bet and then, merely <sigh> I don't think I can ask her anymore. I'll see if I can't grub up my own Emily the Foreign doll...LOL, lots of luck there, Moony. Anywho, if you'll hang with me until the stop of the postal service, you lot'll come across that Ashton-Drake did do their best to remedy this. So stick effectually...'crusade the days of sniffin' the clay are over.
Twister reference aside, moving on. Oh, if only stained feet were the nearly of Delilah'southward problems! Staining can usually be doctored or concealed. No, Delilah has the worst, repeat, the absolute WORST balance I've ever seen on an MSD. Worse than Wozzeck prior to wiring, worse than Ju-hwang, worse than Johnny, who used to hold the championship of worst balance (he'due south slender and top-heavy). I reckon that that warped hip has something to do with this doll's poor remainder, although Miss Emily'southward Delilah Noir also had problems continuing without a warped hip to contend with. Y'all see this picture below?
Delilah is propped confronting the computer tower at my work station, and two seconds after I snapped this shot she did a nosedive into the floor. Yes, I had her leaning slightly backwards, and she fell Forward!!! Johnny volition at least stand if he's propped up! I remember Delilah has the aforementioned trouble Johnny does: they're both alpine, slender, and a bit tiptop-heavy, and in the above photograph Delilah's trouble was exacerbated by her high-heeled boots. When she wears apartment shoes she stands a flake better, but she still falls over a lot. As I noted in the group moving-picture show above, Alistair (the one with the All-time remainder) normally gets the job of keeping Delilah upright, which he does by "holding" onto her arm or her hand like so.
I've got a stand...but it'south a thirty-cadet slice of crap that won't fit on my shelf so there'due south that over and done with. Good thing Ju-hwang isn't the jealous type (she and Alistair have been going steady since shortly subsequently he arrived). Alistair and Delilah may LOOK like an item when they're posed like this, but they're strictly friends. Just the same, Alistair is rock solid in the continuing department, and he has no reservations almost helping his tottery friend stay on her feet. Indeed, I probably couldn't get Delilah to stand at all if it weren't for Alistair!
No problem, I should merely sit Delilah down, right? Well...I would, simply that doesn't work well either. I accept to brace Delilah's back against something in gild for her to sit up, like this.
Not a large deal when I'1000 keeping Delilah at my work station (which I do occasionally practise, as seen higher up), but when I try to sit her on the top of my desk at home she won't sit down because there's zilch to brace her dorsum against. Thus why I have to either force her to stand or go along her lying down. So no, I'm not in dearest with this doll's posing. Ball-jointed dolls are supposed to be super-poseable, and Delilah should be able to go on up with her resin brethren with her number of joints, but she can't. If always there was a doll that needed wiring Delilah would be the i, but I'm unsure if Delilah Noir dolls can be wired. I'll have to investigate and become back to y'all on that.
MSDs, both male and female, tend to fall into ii categories: slim and...well, not so slim! The not-so-slim MSDs are fairly chunky like Hailey sort of is, while the slim dolls look more than like Delilah. Hailey is not a particularly skillful example of a not-then-slim MSD because her limbs are thin, but her torso is about the same size equally a not-so-slim. Thus 1 has to be careful when shopping for MSD clothes, as some are strictly for the slim dolls dolls and Volition Not FIT A LARGER DOLL. I'd advise confronting trying to shove a Mini Super Dollfie into Delilah's threads, for example, as ball-jointed dolls practice non squish like humans do, and a thick Mini Super Dollfie arm would thus rapidly demolish Delilah's slim, tight sleeve. Hailey as well would not exist able to habiliment Delilah's apparel despite her limbs beingness slim, since her torso is thick. So be conscientious nearly MSD clothes, folks. Pay attending to labels, because "slim" usually means "slim." That being said, let'south look at Delilah's daytime outfit, the "Class Act" ready.
This is the simpler of Delilah'southward two stock outfits, just there'due south still a lot to talk well-nigh. It'due south your stereotypical school uniform, one that you might see at a Japanese high school or a private schoolhouse here in the U.S. I'll offset at the meridian with this necktie.
This is your typical piffling black necktie, made of black satin and tied in a...what kind of knot is that??? I knot my scarves like that all the time, and all the same I accept no idea what kind of knot this is. Luckily for me I don't actually take to necktie this scarf to get it on Delilah, as it snaps shut in the back.
In existent life these ties tin can be worn in a myriad of ways, just Delilah'southward fastens under her collar like then.
The collar is fastened (unsurprisingly) to a shirt, a white button-down Oxford shirt similar to what Johnny wears underneath his cardigans.
The buttons are real buttons, but they are sewn on (quite solidly) for decoration. The front of this shirt actually fastens with metallic snaps.
Ah, it does my eye expert to see existent, honest-to-God snaps on doll wearing apparel instead of easy-way-out Velcro. Delilah's sleeves have these snaps besides, at the cuffs.
These have to be these have to be undone to become these sleeves over Delilah'southward hands, and and so one time the sleeves are in place the snaps take to be attached again and so they'll stay in place when the jacket is shoved over them. Sometimes I'll disengage the snaps when the jacket is in place and fold the cuffs over the sleeves on the jacket, merely here lately I've been leaving them fastened. Either fashion works.
Delilah's jacket is a blackness blazer with two contumely beads for buttons.
These actually practise serve as buttons, with little hemmed buttonholes and that. Please endeavour to ignore the cat hair that this jacket has picked upward along the way.
Both sides of the front have ii pockets, and these are real honest-to-God pockets. They could hold tiny items if I all of a sudden decided to get crafty.
Equally thick as this fabric is I assumed information technology would be lined, but it's not.
No huge surprise, since a lined jacket would've added majority.
Down at present to the brim, which is your stereotypical tartan schoolgirl skirt, complete with a ton of pleats.
This besides fastens with a snap.
One other thing is noteworthy about this skirt: it has to exist positioned but so on Delilah's trunk, not likewise high or too low or with the snap off to one side or the other, or the snap won't fasten. This tin go a fiddling frustrating at times. The skirt is nicely hemmed but not lined.
A short brim like this necessitates a pair of panties, of course, and Delilah has those. They're plain picayune white drawers with lace trim around the leg holes.
Black socks and black shoes complete the look. The socks are lined...and even so I suspect information technology was these that stained Delilah's anxiety, since merely her flat feet are stained. Unless someone put the purple socks on the flat feet, which is a possibility. More on that in a fleck.
The shoes are flat-soled shoes and have very thick soles indeed! I'd accept worn these in a heartbeat during high schoolhouse...and in fact, I still would.
These are sized left and right, something 1 doesn't ever run into on doll shoes.
Unfortunately, the tacky glue is going to have to make another appearance, as the top office of i of these shoes has come undone.
I guess that shoe didn't know what it was headed for (LOL). Overall this is a cute little school uni, most what I'd expect for someone who attends a fancy individual school. If I were guessing I'd say that Delilah is attending a private Catholic school, but that's an unfair assumption since Jewish and secular private schools as well have cute uniforms similar this. Equally far as I can tell this outfit has non been the culprit for staining Delilah'southward torso, though I suspect the jacket would if information technology didn't have that white shirt underneath.
With the "Class Act" half over and done, allow'due south take a expect at Delilah's night side with "Violaceous Rave." It'due south a far weep from the schoolhouse uniform, merely it has all the same pieces (albeit with a unlike spin).
Is it just me, or does Delilah look a little similar a magical girl in this getup? With her black wig and her purple, black, and gray outfit she could pass for Homura Akemi. Oooo, at present I've got some ideas for dolly cosplay! LOL, geeking out bated, observe that Delilah is not wearing her boots in the higher up photograph. Here'due south what they wait like.
The eBay seller accidentally left the boots out when photographing the items for the eBay sale, simply after a very pleasant conversation she sent them to me (she included ii extra outfits, one of which is visible above). For all the negative publicity eBay gets, it is possible to run into some delightful people. Anywho, I took the higher up film before the boots arrived, hence Delilah is teetering against the wall in her stocking feet. For the moment I'grand going to prepare the boots aside and go up to the topmost slice, this rather elaborate necklace.
I used to wear something like this with my lower cutting tops back during high school...and with turtlenecks too, for that affair! Fashion rules??? Heck, I made up my own rules and then bankrupt them! Anyway, this necklace is made out of your traditional combo of beads and cord, and it clasps in the back (the clasp is tricky to fasten). This piece can take a little tugging, but as with all beaded items don't pull likewise hard!
Blazers are compulsory with school uniforms, but Delilah probably could've gone without a coat during the night. She does have ane though, and information technology absolutely adds a lot to the rest of the outfit. Information technology's made of black velour that catches lint like mad, and the entire interior is completely lined with dark grey sateen.
Come across the tails? One doesn't usually come across these exterior of an ugly old tuxedo.
Even the sleeves are lined.
Under the coat, Delilah wears this...eeek, it's a dress with a corset tiptop!!! I dear corset tops!
No joke, I've ever wanted to try my hand at wearing a corset, simply to run across if they're equally bad every bit brassieres are. Anyhow, the bodice of this wearing apparel has fragile straps fabricated of black lace and purple sateen, plus black lace panels that create the illusion of a real corset. The front even has a line of pearl buttons that emulate the busk of a corset.
As much as this bodice wants to exist a corset...it's not. Information technology pulls off the look very well, but the back fastened with snaps, not laces.
The interior of the bodice is lined, and here it's possible to see the rather clunky sewing that holds on those pearl beads. Luckily this only looks clunky from the within.
The skirt is knee joint-length like the school skirt is, but that'due south about where the similarities terminate.
The skirt has two layers. The top layer is has iv tiers made upward of black netting and gathered bands of pewter-colored sateen.
The lesser layer is made of violet sateen and is otherwise manifestly.
Information technology shows through the netting on the top layer, giving the overall skirt a prissy sparkle. I exercise wish the thread holding the ruffles on was a different color, though. It'due south white, non gray or black or purple, and thus it sometimes shows.
Nether her brim Delilah wears unproblematic little majestic panties, with no bells or whistles.
I don't know about you, but if I were wearing a skirt that buoyant and that short, I'd want something on underneath too imperial panties! Thus why lolitas unremarkably wear bloomers; their skirts are both puffy and relatively short, and thus they demand something extra to cover their rears. I need to get some for Delilah, just for the heckuvit. She occasionally wears lolita fashion, and all proficient lolitas need bloomers.
Need for bloomers aside, time for footwear. Delilah'due south socks for nightwear are longer than her socks for daywear, coming up to her thighs. They are made of purple knit with a black lace overlay, plus a white lining within. I call up these socks were the ones that stained Delilah's anxiety, and thus that lining didn't do its task.
Lastly, the rogue boots.
These are lace-upwards calf-length boots with a loftier heel, and they are thus exclusively for those loftier-heeled feet. These laces are very small and a piddling on the delicate side; note that one of the laces has had to be tied back together. This knot doesn't show terribly when the shoes are tied, but unfortunately tying the shoes isn't the easiest task in the world. I have few problems since I'chiliad used to manipulating cord, but not everyone makes jewelry for a hobby so go on that in heed if yous have this doll. Restringing the shoes is a possibility if these cords get too problematic.
Similar "Class Human action," "Violaceous Rave" is well-made and bonny, and given my fondness for gothic way I prefer it always so slightly above the school compatible. It also feels very nice to the touch, but there are a lot of parts that could snag or tear...or stain the doll, as the socks have done. And so while I prefer the artful of "Violaceous Rave," it'due south not as sturdy or as versatile as "Class Act" is. I could break up "Course Act" and apply those pieces in other ensembles if I wanted to, and I may practise merely that in the future.
I of my favorite things near Delilah Noir is that she tin share article of clothing with another of my favorite dolls, Ellowyne Wilde. I don't have an case of this moody, broody little Tonner poppet to show you, but online sources insist that Delilah and Ellowyne can share dress. Ellowyne's extra outfits are pricey (every bit Tonner outfits tend to be), so I did the next all-time thing and grubbed up something from Etsy.
This ready came from Tall Cotton fiber Creations (based an 60 minutes and a half away in Ripley, Tennessee) and was tailored with Ellowyne Wilde in mind. Since it's blackness and white it'll get nicely with either of Delilah's personalities, only first I've got to determine if she can wear it!
Yes, she tin can wear it! I'd read that Ellowyne'south measurements were a little bigger than Delilah'south so I was ready for a loose-fitting set, just this actually fits pretty well. Not likewise tight, not too loose, perfect for this time of yr. I did have a little trouble plumbing fixtures Delilah's hands through the sleeves, a problem that I would not have encountered with Ellowyne since Ellowyne'southward easily can popular off, just otherwise Delilah is skillful to go in this.
Dresses are where things showtime to get interesting. I take more than a few things for my MSD girls (which are still floating heads), and I'm hoping that perhaps Delilah can habiliment my beautiful lolita dresses. I accept five lolita dresses in full, but this time I'm but going to look at two. The blueish Alice in Wonderland wearing apparel is a Taobao slice, while the unusual green dress is from Etsy.
Hmmm...now that I look at these dresses I realize that they're a bit big around the waist. Probably when these dresses were sewn the makers had Volks's Mini Super Dollfies in mind rather than the slim ones. Indeed, I did not follow my ain advice above, and I did non pay close attention to labels (none of the wearing apparel descriptions said "slim"). I'd rather have a clothes that is too big for Delilah than too small, simply too big still runs the risk of looking baggy and empty-headed. The blue and white wearing apparel (referred to futurity every bit the Alice dress) has an frock that can exist cinched tight, and then that dress probably won't be much of a problem. Hither'south what it looks like without the apron...
...and with it. I definitely prefer this ensemble with the apron.
Very beautiful! Before I got my doll I'd notwithstanding to see a Delilah Noir doll dressed in lolita wear, so this is a first for me. This dress did indeed prove to exist besides big around the waist, and I did indeed need to use that frock to make information technology fit, but in one case I've got the apron pulled tight information technology looks fine. As a beautiful little touch, the Alice dress even came with a hair ribbon, which I clip on the side of Delilah's head where her original clip is worn.
Every bit much equally I love the Alice wearing apparel, time to put Delilah in the greenish dress and encounter how that looks.
Wow...is that the same doll??? LOL, since I own her I know for a fact that this is the aforementioned Delilah, but y'all volition only have to take my word for it. Unlike the Alice clothes this ane needs no adjustment in order to perfect the fit. Delilah can wear this like it was made for her.
Also sized for slim MSD girls are these pieces, from multiple Etsy proprietors.
The black blouse is a sleeveless number and is a scrap roomy around the bust area, but the sick fit is largely concealed and somewhat rectified by the cardigan. The cardigan is hard to put on, equally the open knitwork catches on Delilah's splayed fingers. I'one thousand besides not sure how well these boots will fit Delilah without socks, so to be safe I put her blackness school socks on under the shoes. Trouble solved!
Also flattering on Delilah is this set.
I first tried this goofy-looking hoodie on one of my Cami dolls and information technology looked reasonably nice, but I think I like this combo on Delilah meliorate. Nighttime hair is an pick for her, and the sweater and jeggings only fit ameliorate. My MSD girls may become to wearable this when they are finally consummate...and they may not!!!
Now...nosotros're going to get a little off the beaten path with this next dress. Over the past calendar month I've purchased a few things with the intention of reviewing them and then...didn't review them. Among the things I bought were two Teen Trends dresses. Teen Trends were a short-lived Mattel line that was available during my late adolescence. I had a passing interest in the Teen Trends merely never got one, and I'm merely now picking up the outfits. I was hoping that they'd fit another doll that I've got slated for a review (she'due south a Hot Looks doll), but spoiler alert, they don't. Paradoxically, I was not expecting these dresses to fit Delilah...only they practice.
Delilah has a slimmer chest than the Teen Trends dolls do (I call up), and thus the bodice of the cream-colored dress doesn't look quite as nice as it would on a Teen Trends doll. But it does fit, and it does look alright, then I thankfully won't take to buy a Teen Trends doll but for the sake of these dresses. The only things that don't fit are the shoes. They're entirely besides big for Delilah'southward feet, which is saying a lot since Delilah has sizeable feet.
Perhaps these shoes will fit Crissy or a Minifee. I'll test that and get back to you lot.
Apparently Delilah tin too clothing Cami's dress, just it should be noted that a lot of Cami's stuff will probably not fit over Delilah's hands. Cami has skinny little sleeves and large easily, but her hands can come up off. Delilah's practise non as far as I know. I'm also told that a few other Tonner things will fit Delilah, especially stuff for the "teen" body (Harry Potter dolls and the similar), only I have none of those items and can't begin to beget secondary market prices and so there's that option off the table for now. Again, Etsy probably has some stuff if I only dig, or I tin just shut up and savor the things I've got. For in improver to Delilah's ii stock dresses and the items y'all have seen I've got THESE!!!
The lady who sold Delilah to me included these outfits when she shipped the boots. If that'southward non great customer service I don't know what is. Just anyway, I have these at present, both casual outfits that suit Delilah's daytime persona...sort of. The footling dress can be either solar day or night, depending on how information technology'southward accessorized. I adopt to pair it with Delilah'due south high heeled boots, like and so.
Wait how cute the back is! It'south got piddling buttons, though they're just for decoration (the clothes closes with Velcro).
The other outfit is a tracksuit. As I've said in the by, I loathe tracksuits. I've owned several in my life, and I've had exactly ONE that I enjoyed wearing. However, I must confess that if Delilah'due south new tracksuit came in my size I'd clothing it because it's not all one color. Information technology's two, gray and hot pink.
Well, okay, I wouldn't wearable this considering the pants fit so cotton-pickin' tight. Luckily Delilah doesn't take huge hips like I do so she looks halfway decent here. At that place isn't really much else to say nearly this particular outfit. It's a cute little tracksuit, fabricated out of jersey fabric, perfect for Delilah to article of clothing during the winter months...provided I tin can observe the right shoes! I'm hoping to grub upwards some cute pink Converse or something like that, something that'southward both stylish and suitable for an able-bodied-type outfit similar this.
I ought to accept known that Delilah could wear a wide range of clothes given the fact that she's the aforementioned size as a resin MSD, simply it'due south still nice to confirm information technology. I will admit, however, that I'grand a little disappointed that Ashton-Drake never released a cheerleader uniform for Delilah (remember that her backstory says she was a cheerleader). I wasn't the hugest fan of cheerleaders in loftier school, simply I've always thought the uniforms were beautiful. Heck, I gauge I tin MAKE ane for Delilah, one in Malden Loftier School'south colors.
I reckon that's a good place to wrap it upward.
BAD
*Oh good Lord, that posing is AWFUL!!!
*Ane of Delilah's legs is warped, rendering her unable to stand up.
*Wigs tin exist tough to control
*Optics are a little bland, though a lovely colour.
*Clothing is a little fragile, especially the dark getup.
*STAINED FEET!!!
GOOD
*Wigs and optics can be swapped around, equally is the case with all expert ball-jointed dolls.
*Sturdy. Delilah may not exist able to stand on her own two anxiety, but if she falls over I don't accept to worry about her breaking.
*Delilah'due south non-strung joints pose wonderfully, making me wish that she WASN'T a brawl-jointed doll.
*Dress are cute and well-fabricated.
*I absolutely dear this doll'south face. These tin can be painted and repainted to suit the possessor's taste, but my Delilah's paint is cute and flawless every bit-is.
*Tin can share clothes with my female brawl-jointed dolls and with some one-time playline dolls. Slim MSD stuff is perfect for this poppet.
Boy howdy, that'southward a lot to mull over, innut? Delilah certainly has her merits, but she's got plenty of flaws as well. Those stained anxiety were avoidable, though having come across that aforementioned problem with my trivial baby doll it wasn't a huge surprise. I don't think Tonner ever had this trouble with their dolls, though Tonner's dolls are non made out of hard vinyl like Delilah is. As frustrating equally those stained feet are, they're non every bit disappointing as Delilah's warpy leg, or her immobile joints. A ball-jointed doll should be able to stand in just nearly every position conceivable, on its own or with the help of a stand, simply Delilah can't do much. She tin't even sit down effectively, so tight are her hips. If she were fully strung I'd simply undo that knot, loosen her strings, and let that be that, but I don't know if that would work or not. I can safely say though that if all Delilah Noir dolls posed like this then I'd understand why she flopped...but they don't all pose similar this. Miss Emily's Delilah could sit down unassisted, though admittedly she does have to agree herself up in a couple of shots.
Since this is my get-go fourth dimension handling a Delilah Noir doll I decided to practice a fiddling earthworks to run across how the afterwards ones turned out, and I afterwards learned that I am not the merely one who got a damaged doll. My doll is apparently one of the primeval ones, released when Ashton-Drake was all the same hammering out dents in her design, and plain these earliest ones had a lot of problems with staining. According to this Amazon review, Ashton-Drake accepted returns from disappointed customers and replaced the stained bodies AND the clothes so the staining wouldn't happen again. So...Ashton-Drake has redeemed themselves with me somewhat, every bit I didn't know they did that. That'southward pretty darn good customer service, though I still don't know if posing ever got meliorate. As I mentioned above Miss Emily'south Pretty in Pink doll could sit down unassisted, so possibly posing did get better.
Heavens, with all that it must sound similar I hate poor Delilah and am gear up to burn her at the pale. I don't, I hope! She'due south got a gimpy leg and her posing stinks, but she'southward pretty and her clothes are nice, and I reckon I could wash all that actress dye out if I tried. Plus, Delilah tin wear the beautiful niggling MSD dresses that I've had sitting around forever. I've been waiting...oh, information technology seems similar I've been waiting forever for a doll that could wear my tatterpunk/steampunk dress, for example (oops, I didn't testify that, LOL). I don't know if I mentioned this before, but the commencement Delilah that I wanted was actually her steampunk self. As with lolita style I tin can't afford steampunk garb for myself, so...live through my "kids," I guess. Lovely as Steampunk Delilah is, her face paint doesn't look as pretty as my doll's paint is, and her stock wig isn't as versatile. As fun as tinkering around with paint and wigs may be, I always like it when a doll looks nice right out of the box. So flaws notwithstanding, I recollect I made a good pick in picking Course Act Delilah over the others. She has her problems and they're frustrating, just for me she'southward still worth the money I spent. Now to see if I tin wire her; it would be fabulous if I could!
Cheers,
